Board of Commissioners will hold their Regular Meeting on November 7, 2024 at 6pm.

First incorporated in 1869 and again in 1883, this charming town has a rich history and is known for its Quaker heritage, stunning agriculture, and unique landmarks. The Town of Rich Square was named for a square of land which previously was 640 acres. Settlers moved down from Virginia for religious freedom, economic considerations and could acquire rich lands on easy terms as well as have larger ranges for their stock. Timothy Cunnigham of Albermarle County bought all 640 acres of Rich Square and later forfeited his patent and the land reverted to the colony of Carolina. Rich Square was later acquired by Edward Howcott of Chowan precinct and was eventually divided up by sale between 1725 and 1867.

Feel free to visit Town Hall to read more about the history of Rich Square.
