Help prevent fats, oils, and grease from clogging our sewers
Facing a kitchen full of dirty pots, pans and dishes is likely everyone's least favorite part of preparing a meal. As tempting as it is to dispose of that hamburger grease, cooking oil or leftover food scraps down the sink, this habit of convenience leads to problems in the pipes inside your home and our sewer system. Fats, oils, and grease, known as FOG, cause sewer blockages that damages homes and pollute the environment. Wastewater from your home is just beginning its journey through our sewer system, carrying everything you send down the drain with it. FOG stick to the inside of sewer pipes, building up over time in your home's plumbing and pipes further down the system. This build-up can eventually clog the entire pipe and cause sewer backups. One resident's habits can impact an entire neighborhood. Everyone is part of the solution. Help our Town.
Please Do Not Use “Flushable” Wipes
Those “flushable” baby/personal wipes are one of the main culprits for clogging sewer pipes and the Town's sewer lines. They do not break down the way toilet paper does. While they may seem a little like toilet paper, they are not. The materials used to make those wipes does not dissolve easily and are far more likely to clog your toilet, clog your sewer line, and causes backups in the Town's Sewer Main, damage pumps in Sewer Lift Stations, as well as the Wastewater Treatment facility.
